Project Crimson- Trees that Count

Project Crimson- Trees that Count

The Cater Plus Foundation are supporting the environmental efforts of Trees That Count- an initiative run by Project Crimson. The campaign has a goal to plant over 200 million native trees throughout New Zealand and is well on track to success with a current count of over 37 million trees planted through the initiative since 2016.
Project Crimson is working to combat climate change by taking positive practical action. By planting native trees, we can help to reduce the impact of greenhouse gases as trees remove a large amount of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide is a gas that contributes to global warming because it produces a “greenhouse” effect on the earth by absorbing heat that is rising from the earth’s surface, and holding the heat within the atmosphere, increasing the earth’s temperature. Project Crimson estimate that over 50 years these trees will remove a whopping 6.25 to 8.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.
In addition to tackling the climate crisis, planting native trees ensures flora diversity, soil regeneration, reestablishes and restores wetland areas, and provides shelter and food for wildlife such as the Kaka and Kereru.
Trees That Count is a way for both individuals, businesses, and communities to give back by either volunteering time to plant trees or by donating funds to purchase trees. The Cater Plus Foundation have pledged $10,000.00 to Trees That Count campaign in 2021. This equates to 1,000 native trees for our local communities.
