Catering Assistant – Tiki Kai Café - Te Wananga o Aotearoa

Tiki Kai Café Kitchen is a café located at Te Wananga o Aotearoa in Mangere specialising in Māori Studies. Cater Plus operates a full café service Monday to Friday 8.00am – 2.00pm and Tuesday and Wednesday 4.00pm - 8.00pm.

Alongside the café service we provide catering for One day Wananga’s (Full day functions, multiple meal services) and Noho’s over the weekend (Breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets). For these functions the kitchen team will be providing Catering services to students up to 350 people arriving for weekend studies who stay over Friday through to Sunday Lunch.

What you will do:
- provide support for hui/functions,
- setting up and running buffet services
- serve beautifully crafted café style food to customers,
- make stunning coffees,
- operate Eftpos and POS machine with a smile,
- assist with food preparation and cleaning,
- work hard as a reliable and loyal team player who can stay cool under pressure,
- utilise great communication skills and a can-do attitude,
- enjoy working with customers and making them smile.

What are we looking for:
- someone with similar experience and two years’ experience in a kitchen/catering role
- basic cooking abilities, assist with food preparation and cleaning
- good temperament
- operate Eftpos and POS machine with a smile,
- work hard as a reliable and loyal team player who can stay cool under pressure,
- utilise great communication skills and a can-do attitude,
- enjoy working with customers and making them smile.

As this is an educational contract work is guaranteed across 42 weeks per year. The kitchen generally closes Mid-December to Mid-January and during term breaks. As we are a multi-site business there is always an opportunity to work at one of our other kitchens when Tiki Kai is closed.

The minimum hours would be 20 hours per week. Some weeks you may be asked to do up to 50 hours if there are functions. You will need to be flexible as to where these shifts are during the week as we operate over a seven day roster.
